August 2 & 3 Update

Being 3 days into my reading challenge I’ve already noticed a reading pattern. I’m doing the bare minimum. I’m getting my 30 mins in and I’m just being lazy and not challenging myself to read more. Today is Sunday, August 4th. Which means it’s the last day before the new work week starts. When August 1st hit I started a new book. That book is Mangus Chase and the Gods of Asgard: The Sword of Summer by Rick Riordan. I’m hoping to finish this book by the end of the week. Since I have read a total of 83 pages so far, that means I need to read at least 68 pages each day this week in order to finish my goal. Will I achieve this weekly goal? Stay tuned to find out later this week!

August Daily Reading Goal

After the Reading Rush (previously The Booktubeathon) ended I’ve been on this reading high. But there has been this thought that I had throughout all of July that I’m going to do in August. That thought has turned into a goal I am challenging myself for the month of August is… Reading for 30 minutes EVERY SINGLE DAY.

I did this a lot in grade school, middle, and even high school. I remember vividly we always had the first 20ish minutes or so to read in one of my language art classes one year in high school and the number of books that I finished was at an all-time high. Since then community college never did anything like that. My adult job and day to day life don’t make me do that. So I thought what the heck let’s bring this back and see what happens.

My focus is to read all the books I own! Maybe not all, but most. The fall release season is fast approaching and I need to get my butt in gear if I want to catch up on series or just read older books that have been on my bookshelves the longest before I can buy any more books.

At the end of each daily blog post, I will most likely end with a chart of my reading progress. This will track the number of pages that I have read so far for the month of August! I’m so excited to get back into truly loving reading and defeat my TBR pile once and for all!

Goodreads Awards Challenge

Rules

Choose one or more awards categories to conquer.

I am going to be choosing the categories Young Adult Fiction, Young Adult Fantasy, and Middle Grade and Children’s.

Within the categories, there are different tiers. Choose which one you’d like to aim for. You can change this at any time.

Young Adult Fiction Tier 1, Young Adult Fantasy Tier 2, and Middle Grade and Children’s Tier 1.

You don’t have to choose the same tier throughout multiple categories. For example, you could aim for Tier 1 (1-2 books) within Historical Fiction, and Tier 4 (9-10 books) for YA Fiction.

Some nominees are sequels. This isn’t a problem. If you haven’t started the series yet, then you can read the first book. If you are in the middle of a series, however, I suggest you get reading. If you quit the series and have no plans to continue, you can count the last book that you read.

DNFs count. I’m not going to force you to read anything you don’t want to. So tick that box!

Tiers

Tier 1: 1-2 books
Tier 2: 3-5 books
Tier 3: 6-8 books
Tier 4: 9-10 books
Bonus: Crackers Challenge (11+ books)

Crackers Challenge

So you might be wondering what this is. WELL. Some of you might want to shoot for the stars and read more than ten books within a category. Meaning, you’d have to look past the finalists and read one or more nominees which didn’t make it to the final round. Good luck, you brave souls.

Categories

This is just a few of the awards categories that I picked up from Goodreads. You can choose other genres if you like, but I didn’t think many people would be going for cookbooks. These are just the finalists, if you want to see all the nominees then you can view those on Goodreads.

For more information or if you’d like to sign up for this challenge I will insert the link here: http://booksofamber.com/2015/12/goodreads-awards-challenge-2016-announcement-and-sign-ups.html

Booktube-A-Thon Update Day 3 & 4

Day 3
At midnight I decided that I was completely slacking off. I knew that I had to get some inspiration to get out of my reading slump and back into reading. I read and completed J.K. Rowling’s Very Good Lives which was a total of 80 pages. As I read this book I also finished the challenge of finishing a book without letting go of it. For the rest of the day and night I accomplished no reading at all once again.

Challenges I completed

  • Finishing a book without letting go of it

Day 4
While sitting out in the pool during the afternoon I decided to get some reading done! I decided to put down The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin and pick up Fire with Fire by Jenny Han and Siobhan Vivian, and I’m so glad I made that decision. I’m kind of sad that I only got 48 pages read, but I had other things going on in the evening and night. I don’t know if I will get any reading done tomorrow or not, but I do plan for day 6 to be filled completely with reading.
