August 13th: Ready To Be Back

Ugh. I’ve been sick. I’ve had allergies. But AT LAST, I finally feel better. And it’s wonderful to not have a Kleenex shoved up my nose 24/7. Last week I did not get a lot of reading done due to being sick and sleeping. Then over the weekend, I went to the Iowa State Fair for the first time ever which was a fun weekend adventure to get away from everything. I saw the cutest baby cow (pictured below), ate a bunch of fried food, and saw lots of animals. IMG_2990But now that my body is under control, I finally got to sit down and read for a half-hour tonight. And man did it feel refreshing. I got sucked back into Magnus Chase, which I’m enjoying at the moment. According to Goodreads, I’m only 34% complete with this book. This is a frustrating spot where I don’t want to be in for this month since it is the NEWTS readathon and I’m trying to get a lot of reading accomplished. But my plan for the rest of the week is to take care of myself, cook lots of homemade meals, exercise, and read to stay healthy and not fall back into a week of misery again! Below is the progress so far for this month. August 13

August 8th: Under the Weather

And then I got sick. Bleh. Since Tuesday the 6th, I have been coming home from work taking a nap, being awake enough to eat dinner, and go back to sleep for the rest of the night in prep for the next day. After a few days, I’m finally getting back to feeling a bit better and more like myself. Right now my body doesn’t feel completely exhausted but now I have this wonderful cough and sore throat. 😦 But on the bright side, I should be back to reading today! I am feeling a bit better, I no longer have a headache, and I’m starting to clean to make sure whatever I have doesn’t spread to anyone else. Expect a reading update later today for today’s progress before the weekend begins!

August 4th: Hot Mess

August 4th. I’m basically failing at this point of my goal. I spent most of Sunday spending some quality time with my mom and shopping for most of the day. It’s actually quite rare that she shops and enjoys it. While we sweated our butts off at a warehouse sale, I didn’t get much reading done. Once we had our day trip wrapped up, I came home and made fish tacos (for the first time) and cleaned my apartment. By 10ish I was ready for sleep and I went to bed. While I read barely anything… on the positive side, I actually READ 7 PAGES! I can’t beat myself up over not meeting my reading goal, but I still have to remain positive! 7 pages is better than none! Hopefully, later in the week, I can get back on track.

The Reading Rush TBR

It’s my favorite time of the year again the BookTubeAThon… wait hold the phone. Recently the BookTubeAThon has changed its name since last year to include everybody from all platforms and is now called The Reading Rush! I’ve participated in this readathon ever since it was started so to say I’m excited is a bit of an understatement. The past few years for this readathon I have been moving at this time so not much reading has taken place, but for once I’m not moving and I can’t wait to get home from work every day and read! In the video below is my TBR for The Reading Rush. What books do you plan to read?

The Haunted Book Review

Since it’s the summer time again, that means a new spooky book by one of my favorite authors gets released. The Haunted by Danielle Vega is one of my most highly anticipated reads of 2019. This book was released on June 4th but I was lucky enough to get an ARC copy at ALA Midwinter Conference in Seattle this year. Below you will find my review which contains all my thoughts, feels, and opinions. Enjoy!

The Summer Book Tag

I created a tag back in the good old summer of 2014 (HOLY MOLY that was 5 years ago… I can’t believe how fast time has gone). And I recently have been trying to do it every summer now. So this year I did it once again! Here’s The Summer Book Tag!

Questions for The Summer Book Tag:

What book cover makes you think of summer?

What book has brightened your day?

Find a book cover with Yellow on it.

What is your favorite summer beach read?

What action book had you running for the ice cream man?

(Sunburn) What book has left you with a bad and/or painful ending?

(Sunset) What book gave you the happiest feelings when it ended?

What book cover reminds you of a sunset?

What is one book or series you hope to read this summer?

Summer Reading & TBR!

Summer weather is finally here and I’m so excited that winter is finally behind us! The other day I started thinking about summer reading challenges and my library’s summer reading challenge. Which lead me to the idea of this video! I plan on getting a lot of summer reading done this year so I made a TBR as well (I’m not the biggest TBR fan but we shall see how this goes). What are some of your summer reading goals or TBR? 🙂

2015 Summer Reading Challenges

The other day I came across this summer reading challenge that Books-A-Million is having this summer and I thought why not join in? The summer reading program is hosted by Ambassador Rick Riordan and includes a sheet you can download to fill out the 4 books that you will read this summer. It also requires you to make a journal as well and fill it out. If you do all these things and turn it into a Books-A-Million near you, you get a free Camp Half-Blood tote bag. Even though this reading challenge in geared towards grades K-12, I still plan on participating. The first two books I’d like to read to complete half this challenge is to reread The Last Olympian and read The Lost Hero both by Rick Riordan. The other two books will be whatever I want to read.

On May 18th-22nd is I Read YA Week. I’m challenging myself to read at least once a day. To celebrate I Read YA Week I plan on reading at least once a day.

BookTube-A-Thon ??? There isn’t a set date for this read-a-thon yet, but I’m beyond excited to participate this year and hopefully read more books than last year!

On August 17th-23rd Bout of Books 14.0 is happening and I will hopefully be participating in this read-a-thon. I have not done one of these read-a-thons in over a year and a half, so I will try to attempt this one if I’m not too busy.

And last but not least I’m challenging myself to read 10 books over the four summer months of May, June, July, and August. Hopefully I can complete all the reading challenges and participate in all the read-a-thons!

Summer 2014 Reading Challenge

Summer 2014 Reading Challenge

My 6 Genre Challenge

The other day I came across a bookmark when I was cleaning my room. I looked it over and I thought this would be a perfect little challenge for my summer reading. I took six genres and thought of a book I would like to read at some point and time this summer. My list includes:

Choose a book from the following Genres:

-Mystery: Twisted by: Sara Shepard

-Sci-Fi: Shatter Me by: Tahereh Mafi

-Fantasy: Clockwork Princess by: Cassandra Clare

-Contemporary: My Life Next Door by: Huntley Fitzpatrick

-Adventure: The Maze Runner by: James Dashner

-Historical Fiction: Seeking Signs by: Staci Angelina Mercado
With those books in mind, hopefully I will get through all of them this summer. As of last night I decided to pick up Shatter Me. Now let the start of my genre challenge begin! You can also check out my video below of myself sharing some other reading challenges that I’m taking part of this summer.
